~ Scott & Shelley ~
Scott & Shelley married in Scott's mother's backyard in Covington, WA on Sunday, August 16th, 2009. I had the privilege of serving as their officiant.
Every once in awhile, the groom contacts me regarding my availability and the services I offer. I was impressed with all of the planning that Scott had done for their wedding day! I have a deep appreciation for couples who both brainstorm and make plans, together. As a couple, they did most everything together -- from re-landscaping the yard where their ceremony would take place to selecting their colors and the guest list. It was wonderful to see the harmony between the two of them despite the pressures that come along with planning such an event. Scott was very reassuring and comforting when his bride needed it.
Scott and Shelley really placed the focus on what they wanted, as a couple. One thing they had talked about was whether or not they should wear their house shoes, aka slippers. It was important for them to be comfortable. They had shared with me that they always wore their house shoes and at one point, had debated to hold their ceremony at their home in Bothell. What better way to bring a little comfort of home with you than to wear your slippers?! I reminded them that it was THEIR wedding and it was important to keep that in mind.
In almost three hundred couples that I've married to date, I hadn't had a couple who had done just this. I've had barefoot couples, couples who wore flip flops, but never slippers. I looked forward to wedidng day, to see what they had decided.
When I arrived, Scott greeted me in house slippers! Thanks to his stepdad, he was able to borrow a pair. (During the hustle and bustle, he had forgotten his back home.) I had asked if Shelley was going to wear hers and he said yes. Now that's keeping the focus on each other! You can see a picture of them below, complete with their slippers on.
Congratulations, Scott and Shelley! May you be blessed with many more years of happiness together.
