Tracy & Rafael
Everett wedding couple
Tracy and Rafael found me in the way most couples I serve "find" me -- on the internet. Tracy and Rafael married on June 9th, 2009 with the support of their two witnesses. (You can see a picture of the four of them below.) Tracy and I exchanged multiple emails as we discussed the details of their wedding day, working out which vows they'd like to use as well as background information about the two of them as a couple.
What was unique about this experience is that I was able to work alongside Tracy, Rafael and their two witnesses despite the fact that they are hearing impaired. (I had Kristy & Khoa, who I served two years prior, also a hearing impaired couple, who were my first experience.) With the help of technology, the internet and a telecommunications relay service (also known as TRS) I was able to communicate just as I would with a "hearing" couple.
When I arrived on wedding day, I was warmly greeted by Tracy, her soon-to-be husband and their witnesses. Their pre-ceremony events weren't too different from what I am accustomed to. Last minute pictures, talking about what to expect during the ceremony (it was an elopement-style ceremony), who had the rings, etc. The only difference was the sign language that accompanied my questions. (The bride, groom and their friends were able to understand most everything I said!)
Thank you, Tracy & Raf for allowing me to serve as your officiant. May you be blessed with many more years of happiness.
